  • Khajuraho temple is world renowned for its sculpture dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Jain deities and sexually explicit carving both inside and outside of the temples. A UNESCO world heritage site Khajuraho is believed to have has over 75 temples of which 22 remain today.
  • Orchha is town near the banks of Betwa river. The medieval city of Orchha seems to have forzen in time, its palaces and temples still retaining their original grandeur.
  • Jhansi City, situated between the rivers Pahunj and Betwa is a symbol of bravery, courage and self espect. It is said that in ancient times Jhansi was the part of the regions Chedi Rashtra, Jejak Bhukit, Jajhoti and Bundelkhand. In 1842 raja Gangdhar rao married Mannikarnika. After this marriage Mannikarnika was given the new name Lakshmi Bai, who led forces against British in 1857. She sacrificed her life to the cause of Indian Independence in 1858.
  • The Raneh Falls is a natural water fall on the Ken River, located in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The Ken River forms a 5 kilometers long and 30 metres (98 ft) deep canyon made of pure crystalline granite in varying shades of colours ranging from pink and red to grey. There is a series of waterfalls in the canyon. The larger and smaller falls run all through the year. Other seasonal falls appear during monsoons. It is about 20 kilometres away from Khajuraho The Ken Gharial Sanctuary is located at the confluence of the Ken and Khudar rivers further down from Raneh Falls.
  •  SCHEDULE
  • Day 1 - Reporting at Jhansi (Hotel Om Place) by 12.00 Noon. Visit to Museum & Fort of Jhansi after lunch. (Light & sound show).
  • Day 2 - Visit to Orchha by jeep (from 8.00 to 12 Noon) with pack lunch covering Orchha Temples,Palace & Lunch at bank of Betwa River. Departure for Khajuraho by 2 P.M.
  • Day 3 - Morning session - Visit to Khajuraho temples (from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM). Evening session - Light & sound show at Khajuraho temples.
  • Day 4 - Visit to Raneh falls by Jeep from Khajuraho. Group break after lunch at Khajuraho Hostel and thereafter participants will be shifted to Jhansi Railway Station by jeep.
  • FEE : Rs. 4950/- for YHAI Members. Rs. 5500/- for non members, The fee covers I. Stay charges at Hotel Om Palace at arrival on 07/11/2013 with boarding. ii. Stay charges at Khajuraho Youth Hostel. iii. Jeep charges at Jhansi and Raneh Falls and shifting to Khajuraho and back to Jhansi. iv. Entry fees and guide charges at all locations.

  • 1. At some locations authorities will be charging for still/video camera. This is not included in participation fees. Participants has to bear by themselves only. 2. At Jhansi Hotel & Khajuraho Hostel rooms will be on sharing basis (Male & female separately).

  • BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM : The long coastal belt of Odisha offers some of the finest white sand beaches in the world. Virgin & unspoilt, it is not surprising that they are becoming a regular haunt for avid beach combers & worshippers. Trekkers can enjoy the beauty of the coastal region in a trekking program devised for the area between Puri & Satapada that covers interesting terrain, sand dunes, aqeous swamps & dense casuarinas forests add variety & a piquant novelty to the trek. The surrounding countryside is rich with flora & fauna & the sighting of black- buck or the giant sea turtles or the playful Irrawaddy Dolphinscavorting in the Chilika Lake give the entire experience a delightful fillip.
  • CHILIKA ; It is the largest brackishwater lagoon in Asia with estuarine characyer & a welcoming wintering ground for millions of migratory avifauna. About 52 number of rivers & rivulets drain into the Lake. It has a mouth linked with the sea on the eastern side. The area of the lagoon varies between 1165 & 906 sq. km., during monsoon & summer respectively. Based on its highly productive ecosystem, rich biodiversity & socio- economic importance, Chilika was designated a Ramsar site in 1981, under the Convention of Wetland of International Impoortance. It has a rare, threatened & endangered species, including the limbless skink & Irrawaddy Dolphin.
  • PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM : The purpose of the program is o create in the minds of the youth, a sense of love for the countryside by way of offering them an outsoor recreational activity with the aim of promoting National Integrtaion by bringing them together from all parts of the country.
  • PROGRAM FEE : Rs 3,500/ (for Non-members Rs.150 extra), including accomodation, food, guidance, equipment, insurance group, transportation & boating charges.
  • REPORTING PLACE : Youth Hostel, Puri.
  • REPORTING DATES : Any day between 20th December 2013 to 31st December 2013. , The batch size is 40 people on each reporting date. Booking will be done on first come first serve basis.
  • HOW TO REACH THE BASE CAMP : The base camp will be at Youth Hostel, Puri.It is within 1 km from Puri railway station. It is well connected with train and road from every point of India. Nearest airport is Bhubaneswar, 60 km from Puri.
  • PROGRAM SCHEDULE
  • Day 1: Reporting before Lunch & Oreintation.
  • Day 2: Trek to Bali Harichandi – 9km
  • Day 3: Trek to Lunapani – 14 km
  • Day 4: Boating-Trek-Boating to Brahmapura. – 7km
  • Day 5: by boat to Satapada- visit museum, return to base camp by Bus
  • Day 6: Visit to Konark –Sun temple,Dhauligiri- Shanti stup, khandagiri & Udayagiri ,Nandan kanan Zoo and Bhubaneswar back to Puri.
  • NOTE:
  • 1. Participants have to pay their entry fees where ever applicable.
  • 2. Monday there is no entry to Nandan kanan Zoo.
  • 3. On 6th day if the Participant desires to get down at Bhubaneswar after the visit, then they have to inform in advance.
  • 4. Program route & schedule are subject to change with or without prior notice.

1. NAGGAR
The International Youth Hostel Manali is located in Prini Village, on the Manali Naggar Highway. Naggar is a heritage village of Himachal Pradesh, and has been an old capital of Kullu Kingdom, for about 14 centuries. The Naggr Castle is built on a hillside as royal residence offering a panoram,ic view of the upper Beas Valley.  Adjacent to it is a flat slab of rock known a s’ Jagati Pat’ amongst the locals.
The famous ‘Roerich Art Gallery’ is close by, above the hill. It has served as the home for the world famous painter- Roerich, for about 18 years.
After Naggar, one can continue to travel through thick forest towards the Janna Water Fall, where you can enjoy local delicacies on the way to Bijli Mahadeo.


2. TEMPLE TRAIL TO NAGGAR & JANNA WATER FALL
Manali to Naggar via left bank offers a fascinating & satisfying trip. Every village falling in between has its own temple dating back to the 7th & 8th centuries. Shuru Prini, a 3 km drive from Manali is known for excellent ancient temples. Nearby is the Arjun Gufa ( Only for trekking), where the famous Pandava meditated during their clandestine stay in the Himalayas. 6 km from Manali is Jgatsukh, the former capital of the Kullu Kingdom. It is famous for the 7th centur Gaurishankar & Sandhya Devi temples.

3. HADIMBA TEMPLE
The Hadimba Temple is situated on a little hill in a grove of magnificent cedars. Built in 1553, the temple is in pagoda style, with 4 superimposed pent roofs. The fa├žade is decorated with elaborate wood carving in the ancient style of Western Himalyas. The temple is dedicated to Hadimba Devi of the Mahabharata age, who made an excellent marriage with Bhima, the Pandava. Closeby is a gigantic deodar tree decorated with tin effigies & iron knives of all sorts & sizes, which is worshipped as a seat of powerfull Ghatotkach, the son of Hadimba & Bhima.

4. MANU TEMPLE
Situated at Old Manali, the temple is dedicated to Rishi Manu, house boat landed here, after the Great Deluge. Manu is believed to have formed a treatise on the social code of conduct, here in Manali. It is perhaps the only temple of Rishi Manu, in India. Manali has derived its name from Manu + Alaya, the home of Manu.

5. ANCIENT SHIVA TEMPLE
Overlooking the Manali Township is an ancient Shiva Temple. It is a unique combination of Pagoda & Chalet architecture. Wooden carving of exquisite quality is seen to be believed. Legends say that the marriage procession consisting of Ganas of Shiva stayed overnight at this place on their way to Kailash.

6. TIBETAN MONASTERY
Situated at the heart of the township, these monasteries give a gigantic status to the statues of Lord Buddha, Padam Sambhav & other holy persons. Thanka paintings of Tibetan art can also be seen in these mobasteries. Thus one can have a fair glimpse of the art, culture & religion of Tibet. Manali has a Gurudwara too, which has been catering to the spiritual needs of the faithful for the last 50 years.

7. VASHISHTH
Hardly 3 km across the Beas River, is located the ancient village of Vashishth. It is famous for sulpher hot water springs endowed with medicinal properties & have twin temples of Lord Rama & Vashishth Rishi. The village represents a panoramic view of the entire upper valley from Solang to Naggar.


8. NEHRU KUND
On the way to Rohtang Pass, top for a while to quench the thirst by drinking ice- cold but natural, crystal clear spring water of the Nehru Kund. The place is named after Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, who used to drink water from this very mountain spring during his sojourns in the valley.

9. MARHI
A quiet spot to rest & enjoy refreshments. The legend has it that a unit of Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army perished to a man owing to sudden snowstorm. The Laddakh bound expedition was caught unaware in the blizzard. Thus, the place derived its name from Marhi, the death house.

10. ROHTANG PASS
At Rohtang Pass, one can have a tete-a tete with nature’s beauty & might, around the waterfalls, snow peaks & running runnels of clear & pure water. Situated at an altitude of 13500ft., the Pass is a gate way to the inaccessible land of Lamas. Rohtang Pass means the heap of human bones. It symbolizes the death of countless human beings while attempting to cross this treacherous Pass over the years. Near the Top is the Beas Rikhi, the original source of river Beas. Paying respects by visiting the small shrine dedicated to Beas Rishi, the author of the Mahabharata is a must for every visitor crossing the formidable pass.

11. KULLU, KASOL, MANIKARAN
Manali to Manikaran is a full day trip towards Kullu. One can start early in the morning, can enjoy the adventure of River Rafting, in the river Beas. Vaishno Devi Temple is also a beautiful temple before Kullu on the bank of River Beas. After diverting towards the left, along river Parvati, Kasol is also a small but beautiful attractive spot. From here, Manikaran is just 6 km. Manikaran is famous for Historic Gurudwara, Shri Ramchandra Temple & natural hot water springs. The water is so hot that one can even prepare food from it.
